Battle of the Unicorns and presentation of the Tom Marsden Cup.

On Sunday 26th June 2022 Lapworth CC hosted our family fun day. With food stalls, music, a bouncy castle and lots of fun & games – an incredible day was had by all! Our club hosted the ‘Birmingham Unicorns’ as they competed for the ‘Tom Marsden’ Cup. Tragically, Tom passed away in 2019 – he was the kindest of souls and is truly missed by all that were lucky enough to know him. We were super proud to welcome Tom’s parents Ian & Sharon as our special guests for the day.

Lapworth CC batted first and with some big hitting from a handful of their batters, they set the Unicorns a target of over 250 runs in their 30 overs. Although they fought hard, the unicorns couldn’t reach the target and the match was won by Lapworth CC. Alongside our chairman Richard Evans, Sharon Marsden presented the cup to the winning captain, Danish Rana.

Speaking to the Unicorns – they explained “Birmingham Unicorns was established in 2020 as a proudly LGBTQ+ inclusive cricket club, providing a place for people passionate about cricket to come and play and socialise”. Those wishing to learn more about the Birmingham Unicorns, click here
